Summer Daily Devotional - Psalm 27
I'm Still Confident
David opens and closes Psalm 27 with a statement of confidence:
Verse 3: “…even then I will be confident.”
Verse 13: “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”
Confidence can come from all kinds of sources, but where your confidence comes from determines when it runs out.
If your confidence is cosmetic, it’s only a few years or a few doughnuts before it slips away. If your confidence is your career, a slight shift in the economy or a global pandemic can alter it forever.
But if your confidence is in Christ, it can never run out, ever, because your source is cosmic.
Take a look at what’s happening to David:
“When evildoers advance against me…”
“Though an army besiege me…”
“Though war rises against me…”
And yet he says, "even then I will be confident.”
Why? Because God is the stronghold of my life (vs. 1).
Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do in hopeless situations is remind yourself of who God is for you.
He is my light (vs. 1)
He is my salvation (vs. 1)
He is my stronghold (vs. 1)
He keeps me safe (vs. 5)
He hides me (vs. 5)
He lifts me up above my enemies (vs. 6)
He helps me (vs. 9)
And the second most helpful thing you can do is declare with faith what He will do for you despite what’s happening to you:
“I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” (vs. 13).
Psalm 27 is a fight song you should commit to memory. A Psalm that anchors you when life hits hard. It’s a Psalm that realigns your perspective around the truth that God fights for you. It’s a Psalm that reminds you that God will not let your enemies prevail, no matter how bleak it looks, no matter how dire it feels, no matter how close they come.
What are you currently putting your confidence in right now? Remember and declare.
