Summer Daily Devotional - John 16
"Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete" (John 16:24).
God did not leave us to navigate life in this world on our own. And yet, so many of us act and live as if we were all alone. The Holy Spirit isn’t an idea or a force or a concept, He is the very Spirit of God who gives God’s children all the benefits of Jesus’ death and all the power of His resurrection. He is the one who shows us the love of the Father (v. 25), who leads us into truth (v. 13), who convicts us of our sin (v. 8) and comforts us with the forgiveness of God in Jesus (v. 10).
That’s His job. That’s why God sent Him. That’s why Jesus died and rose—so that He could live in us. So why not ask Him what He thinks about everything you’re facing?
Ask Him for help…
…with what to say to your teenager who just challenged your authority for the fourth time today.
…about how you should respond to your spouse in the middle of this argument.
…when you’re making a decision.
…to comfort you when you’re facing loss.
…before you face temptation. How about when you’re smack-dab right in the middle of a temptation? Or right after you’ve been defeated by temptation?
“You mean, after I’ve already sinned?”
Yes, that’s exactly when you need Him most.
The Holy Spirit is with you and in you, sent by God to help you. So why not ask Him what He thinks about your situation? Don’t live as if you’re helpless or alone. Ask Him.
